On 1st January 2003, the Innovation Centre for Medical Technology and Pharmaceuticals (IZMP) moved
into its attractive new premises in the centre of Erlangen. After an interim period of about one and a half
years during which the IZMP was able to attract several firms, the new building in Henkestraße 91 has turned
the IZMP into a clearly visible milestone on the way towards making Erlangen the "capital" of medicine in
Germany.
The principle of success behind high-tech innovation centres which seek links to university institutes
was implemented through the IZMP. In conjunction with the Friedrich-Alexander University of
Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU), a building has been completed on the land in Henkestraße which houses both the
IZMP with its office and laboratory space for start-up companies and the University Institute of Medical
Technology. The foyer shared by the two is a symbol of the link between science and industry and it also
serves to stimulate the exchange of ideas between researchers and new start-up companies.
On an area of about 3,900 square metres the IZMP provides highly flexible premises, with office and
laboratory units of between 50 and 500 square metres as well as many other facilities, like, for example,
a cafeteria or centrally located conference rooms which make the work of new start-up firms easier.
